Tortilla

How do you make tortilla chips?

Today I wanted nachos but didn't have any chips. I found some soft tortillas, cut them into triangles, put some oil on them and they are now in the oven. I haven't yet found if my experiment worked or not but for future refrence I should know how to cook tortilla chips.

  1. microwave
  2. And that's the way! You can add some seasoning sprinkled before you put them in the oven.
  3. For a healthy alternative to frying I cut the tortillas into triangles and baked them at 400 for about 7 minutes. It was great and healthier than frying.
  4. you fry them , oven baking will work, but will have a different effect.
  5. Fry the tortillas , more of a chip that way.
  6. HOMEMADE TORTILLA CHIPS

1 pkg. corn or flour tortillas (corn are lower in fat than flour)

    cumin seasoning

    Lite salt

Cut stack of tortillas into 8 wedges each. Spread wedges in a single layer on baking sheet. Sprinkle with cumin and lite salt. Bake at 375 degrees about 10 minutes, turning after 5 minutes. Make sure you watch them closely. You do not want them too brown. Store in an air tight container. When serving, freshen the chips in the microwave about 45 seconds to 1 minute. Let sit about 5 to 10 minutes before eating so they can harden and cool.

    Makes 200 chips.
  7. corn tortillas work best and that's how u make corn tortilla chips, flour tortillas are something different and not the same used for nachos. white or yellow- probably yellow for nachos, heat cooking oil in heavy skillet- like to deep fry- cut tortillas into triangle-like a pizza and put into hot oil, cook until crisp and drain on a pile of papertowels and salt.
  8. I have done this several times. The key (as someone else mentioned) is the tortilla. Corn is a must, Flour tortillas taste almost like dessert after they are fried. I do agree in the deep frying you get a ton more flavor verses baking. You definitely want to salt them directly out of the fryer (so the salt sticks) with kosher salt. Also try a very light toss in some Lime juice for some extra flavor. The only thing that I have found with home made chips, is that they tend to go stale a little quicker then store bought. But the flavor is worth it.
