Tortilla

Crispy Tacos South of the Border?

I've been told (by Native Mexicans) that the fried folded tortilla taco shell cannot be found in any Mexican cuisine south of the border. I still have to find this hard to believe for a country that is large as Mexico, and, since American cooking is almost always an introduction by some type of immigrant.

Note that I'm asking about the folded-type shell - not the flat tostada - which I know is served in Mexico.
Thank you Frany,

Of course, you probably know that many Mexicans don't consider the border towns real Mexico (like that makes a lot of sense either). I hope we get some more comments

  1. I am from Laredo, Texas and it's on the border of Mexico ( Nuevo Laredo) and when we go down there, we eat at El Rancherito and its very popular. They do have that kind of taco shell, and all over Laredo too. We also have eaten at other places like small businesses in Mexico and they have it as well. Maybe it depends on where you are from, i hear things are different depending on what part of Mexico..

YOUR RIGHT!!...BUT I WAS SAYING THAT I LIVE ON THE BORDER, BUT WHEN WE GO TO MEXICO( ACROSS THE BORDER, WHICH IS KNOWN AS NUEVO LAREDO) THEY HAVE THOSE RESTAURANTS I WAS TELLING YOU ABOUT...EL RANCHERITO, AND MANY SMALL PLACES AND EVEN SOME LITTLE STANDS ON THE STREET THAT ARE SOO GOOD, BUT THERE CORN TORTILLAS ARE REALLY SMALL THOUGH. YOU WONT FIND THEM LIKE WE HAVE OVER HERE. THESE ARE SMALL LIKE THE SIZE OF A BASEBALL AND THEY DOUBLE THEM WHEN THEY SERVE IT TO YOU.
