Tortilla

Tortilla pinwheel sandwiches?

I know that not everyone likes mayo, mustard and various spreads on their sandwiches (or they just don't like the taste period). I'm making tortilla pinwheel sandwiches with various meats - some will have turkey only, roast beef only, various salames, ham & cream cheese, etc. For a party of 22 people would you put these condiments on some of the pinwheels and leave some dry or just leave them all dry?

Of course there'll be cheese on some with lettuce.

Thanks!
Forgot to mention, this will be outside. Hopefully it won't be too warm/hot. Today was suppose to be 85 and I doubt it got over 74.

  1. Instead of mayo, mustard, etc, why not try flavored cream cheese spreads? I make tortilla pinwheels with ham or turkey, cheese, and garlic and herb cream cheese. Delish! Good luck!
  2. ashley has a good idea. and you can also make your own flavored cream chesse. try mixing it with taco seasoning or salsa or cucumber(not the seeds) and garlic. very good.
  3. Actually, I think you would be better off to leave the sauces off of all of them. Serve them on a platter and put containers of sauces and condiments in the center of the platter for dipping. You can provide spoons for the guests and they can dip the sauces that they want onto their plate, ( so there is no double-dipping) and then they can dip their pinwheels in them. This will give them a nice variety and also make it easier on you by not having to put certain condiments on certain pinwheels.
  4. I would leave them all dry. Otherwise, they might get soggy and then no one will want them. Besides, it is quicker to keep the line moving if people don't have to guess what condiment is already on them, as well as figure out what kind of meat, etc. they are. I personally think you have too many choices already. You really should just keep it simple.
  5. These are always a hit at a party. Take a large tortilla spread cream cheese that has been whipped with horseradish and green onions and a little ranch dressing to make it more spreadable. Cover the tortilla with fresh spinach leafs and then a thin layer of deli sliced roast beef. Role it up tight with saran wrap. I actually make mine with the piece of saran wrap underneath the tortilla right from the start. Put them in the refrigerator overnight, they cut better and the flavors have a chance to sink in. I take them out of the refrigerator the next day and cut only what I need stacking them high on a nice plate. YUM!
  6. I like ham on mine. I have thought about trying it with crab meat as well.

I wouldn't leave them dry, as long as you won't be outside in the heat. If you're inside, leave the sauces on them! It makes them so much better! Or you could make 2 platters of each kind..... like 12 with and 12 without. Good Luck!!
